The project was developed with the purpose to create a community space in Khuda ki Basti, Karachi. Keeping in consideration that Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, a premier industrial and financial centre, is one of the largest cities in the world yet it faces the challenge of ranking among the bottom 10 cities in the 2019 Global Liveability Index. Urban green space has shrunk to less than 4% of the city’s built-up area, and with a density of more than 20,000 people/square kilometer, Karachi is also experiencing commercial development that threatens to swallow its few shared open spaces.
The objective of the project is “To provide active and passive recreational opportunities which Contribute to the health and wellness of a community through creating of community space in Khuda ki Basti in Karachi, Pakistan.”
140 families (840 individuals) will get direct benefit from the park whereas, it will also provide opportunity to nearby communities to visit the park occasionally.
The Project was funded by Land and House Cooperation of of Korea (LH), Technical Support from Good Neighbors and Implemented by Riverside Development Organization (RDO) at Khuda ki Basti, Karachi, Pakistan. Hamsaaya Consultancy provided the project monitoring, Coordination and communication services to the project partners to successfully complete the project.
