Hamsaaya is a credited partner alongside Pakistan Global Institute (PGI) on the SIM Scholarship — a program named in memory of Ms. Minjung Sim and Ms. Hyojin Lim, honoring their dedication to education and women's empowerment.
Underprivileged girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan face steep barriers to higher education: poverty, restrictive social norms, and, since the ban on women's education in Afghanistan, an outright block on continuing their studies at home. After a 2024 monitoring visit confirmed the program could no longer safely operate in Afghanistan, Good Neighbors and its partners expanded SIM Scholarship into Pakistan to keep that promise alive.
Today 18 women — 3 Afghan, 5 Hazara, and 10 from other parts of Pakistan — are studying Computer Science, Business Administration, Business Data Analytics, or English as a Second Language at PGI in Rawalpindi, with the scholarship covering tuition, annual activities, library access, and hostel accommodation through to graduation.
On campus, a SIM Garden was planted and a memorial plaque unveiled to honor Ms. Sim and Ms. Lim — a lasting marker of the program's roots alongside the 18 women it's carrying toward employment and self-employment over the next four to five years.
